What is the Surprising Payback between a House and a Home?

Welcome to my Home or Welcome to my House; what sounds more inviting?

(Definition Home and House according to http://dictionary.com )

Home: a place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household

House: a building for human habitation

Looking at the definition of home versus house; the word family for a home versus human habitation; gives you a strong sense Home is more personal.

Where Most Thoughts Get Housed

At the beginning of our adult life (my wife and I), had a dream to own our own house.  We never thought of owning a house early in our adult lives would seem even possible.

Good Peer Pressure

My wife had a full-time permanent position, and I had a full-time contract job.

The contract job was working with a group of people who were 7 to 10 years old than us.

At work, I noticed many of my peers had floor plans to build new houses.

At coffee break, these folks would be discussing building their second and third homes; I had a lot of admiration for what these people were accomplishing.

World of the Unknown

During one of these work coffee breaks, I mentioned to my co-workers that my wife and I would love to own a house.  Every co-worker in chorus said, ” You could and you should.”

These folks took me under their wings, and before I knew it, I was getting into the world of unknowing.

My co-workers peppered me with a ton of questions; the real estate inquisition which turned out to be the real estate acquisition.

  1. What type of property?
  2. New or Preowned?
  3. How to Finance?
  4. Who to Finance with?
  5. Government Grants for First-time Home Owner?
  6. Down Payment Sources?
  7. Mortgage Types?
  8. Terms and Amortizations?
  9. High Ratio or Conventional Mortgage?
  10. The Cost of a High Ratio compared to a Conventional Mortgage?
  11. Insurance?
  12. And More?

The list was endless, and our heads almost exploded.  Learning from others who had gone before us; showed the importance of street learning from doers.  The education these people had gained from doing was real life.  For some of these folks, were from the school of hard knocks, and they were paving a smooth road for my wife and I to travel.

With most of my co-workers were purchasing new-built homes, and this influenced us.

Purchasing a new-built has a certain cache; being able to pick paint colours, flooring types, lighting fixtures and a handful of other items made the house buying more personal.  Being able to have some say made this house we were purchasing into our dream home.

The next time you go for coffee with your co-workers, skip the conversation about sports or politics and see if you can acquire some great ideas regarding personal financing and making your life more abundant.

Your co-workers are a great source of knowledge and are more than happy to see you succeed.

Who doesn’t like to share their success stories; are you listening?

Are you ready for a surprising payback from these conversations?
