How to Add Years to Your Life Through Purpose

As I age the more I look for advice to help me lengthen my stay in this world.

I took up 1/2 marathon running a little later in my life and even though I knew exercise had life-lengthening benefits; I had to have a health scare to rock my foundation before I leap into action.

Why does it take a significant dilemma in our lives to motivate us to take action?

As part of my three major pillars to building success through investment real estate, I talk about creating a living legacy.  Being involved while you are living is one of my hopes of influence that I will have for you through my writings and teachings.

I just returned from a family vacation in the Rocky Mountains, and this vacation was all made possible through investment real estate.

Last year I ran in the Montreal Rock N’ Roll marathon, and one of our granddaughters came with us.  She is in French Immersion, and as soon as we arrived in Montreal, she immersed herself in the French Canadian culture.  My wife and I enjoyed her experience; we were pleasantly surprised at her ability to speak a second language.  The warmth of the Montreal people enhanced my granddaughter’s trip.  This trip was made possible through our investment real estate.

Part of my living legacy is to spend quality time with my children and their children and to make this happen often.

Having a living legacy is one of my purposes in life.

What is a purpose?

Definition of purpose (according to Merriam-Webster)

1a: something set up as an object or end to be attained : intention
2: a subject under discussion or an action in course of execution

on purpose

: by intent : intentionally

Why is purpose significant in our lives?

What is exciting about having a purpose is the other day I read an article in Science Daily and its talks about new research regarding having a sense of purpose.

Source: Association for Psychological Science

Summary: Feeling that you have a sense of purpose in life may help you live longer, no matter what your age, according to new research. The research has clear implications for promoting positive aging and adult development, says the lead researcher.

I am not looking for the Holy Grail; I am looking for anything that helps me get to spend a little more life on this earth and finding purpose is a clear way for most of us to get more time in this world.

To make purpose more valuable, we need to dig a little deeper into what is a purpose. Questions on purpose could be useful to you.

Questions on Purpose

  • Have you ever thought of your purpose in life?
  • Should you have a purpose?
  • What is on your mind when thinking purpose?
  • Do you want a purpose?

These are all valid questions around the idea of purpose; what’s the real challenge here for you finding purpose?

Science has proven that having a purpose can add years to your life.  Is living longer enough motivation to take action?
